Sold Out - CAST Academy @ CSTA

Friday, November 30, 2018

CSTA is proud to partner with the California Department of Education to offer a CAST Academy at the 2018 conference.

The California Science Test (CAST) Academy will provide science teachers, teacher leaders, teacher trainers, and other local educational agency (LEA)-level and state-level curriculum, professional development, and instructional coaches with a deep understanding of the assessment design and expectations of the CAST. In addition, the CAST Academy will provide information and activities designed to support educators in implementing the California Next Generation Science Standards (CA NGSS) and three-dimensional learning, and understanding how these new science assessment item types can inform teaching and learning.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • review the types and roles of assessments in a comprehensive science assessment program;
  • deconstruct a CA NGSS performance expectation (PE), review the role of phenomena, and understand the goals of multidimensional item alignments to a PE;
  • experience the CAST training test items, identifying their demands and expectations, both for students and educators;
  • consider the implications of the CA NGSS and of items like the CAST training test items for teaching and learning.

The Academy runs from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a lunch break from 11:00 to 12:30 p.m. Lunch (not provided) and optional lunchtime focus group for in-person attendees; Exhibit Hall Exclusive Time.

  • Tickets: $50 with full conference registration or $75 for the CAST Academy only (space is limited)
  • Emphasis: Assessment design and expectations of the CAST
