CSTA is pleased to announce that Stephen Pruitt, President of the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) will be the luncheon speaker at Onward. Dr. Pruitt, is a former high school chemistry teacher whose career path led him from the classroom, to a state-level position in his home state of Georgia, to vice-president at Achieve leading the development of the Next Generation Science Standards, to the role of Kentucky's commissioner of education, to where is is today at the SREB working with member states to improve public education. Dr. Pruitt is a tested leader and experienced in leading change.
This multi-part series has grown to meet California science educator needs and is now offering three tracks.
This session addresses how to navigate leading learning and the challenges of change that come with it. In Year 1 of Onward, you will share in learning what these roles are about and advance your professional growth while facilitating that of others.
If either is true Year 1 is for you!
Spend the day navigating conversations, learning who the influencers are, and how to refine your communication approach based on your audience. Work with peers who are also coaches and TOSAs with a year or more experience in the role.
Then this is your next step!
Prerequisite: Prior Year 1 Onward Pre-Conference participation
This session addresses the implications of coaches and TOSAs being the local guides for science instructional material selection. Before materials can even be selected for a pilot what has to happen? How does that work into your current role, and existing multi-year CA NGSS implementation plan? This session will best serve your work if you come with at least one partner.
Then this session is for you to further what you do and support newer coaches/TOSA’s as well as the classroom teachers.
Prerequisite: This new offering expands the Coach/TOSA Pre-Conference to both past attendees of Years 1 (who have two or more years of experience in their role) and Year 2 participants. TOSAs, Science Coaches, and individuals in similar roles with two or more years experience in their role are also eligible to participate. Why? So the conversations and resources can be well suited to the audience.
